Episode 179 - Momming in Style: How to Elevate Your Wardrobe with The Mom Edit founder Shana Draugelis

In this exciting episode, we kick off our new season with a lighthearted conversation featuring Shana Draugelis, the founder and CEO of popular fashion, shopping and lifestyle website, The Mom Edit. We dive into what we can wear to feel put together, chic, and comfortable on the daily.

Shana dives into the origins of The Mom Edit, explaining how it started as a personal blog documenting the fashion of "cool moms" at the playground and how it's grown to where it is today. We then tackle the daunting task of cleaning out closets, with Shana offering practical tips to make the process less overwhelming. We bond over our shared struggles with closet organization and the emotional weight of letting go of clothes. Listen in as she talks about the importance of creating piles without the pressure of immediate decisions!

We also discuss the current trends in fashion, including the shift towards looser jeans and the search for the perfect layering pieces. Shana shares her current favorite style pieces and we chat on the challenges of finding the right outerwear to complement baggy jeans - she provides some helpful alternatives to elevate any outfit.

Finally, we wrap up with Shana providing valuable recommendations for must-have products, including a magical neck cream we are running to buy!

This episode was engaging and informative, filled with laughter, relatable stories, and practical advice that will inspire you to embrace your own style journey.

About The Mom Edit and Shana Draugelis:

The Mom Edit serves up daily fashion and lifestyle content that reaches over 3 million visitors like you each year.  With a team of contributors located all over the US, they are known as a playful and candid source for all things style, momming, travel, beauty and home.

They are a team of style experimenters, passionate researchers, cost-per-wear calculators, and fearless try-on models.

Expect them to edit down sale sections to only the good stuff, determine if a piece is actually worth the cost (will I use this 10 times??), figure out how to make trends work in a practical way, and embrace the evolution of our personal style. Their mantra? Wear what you love, and buy the stuff you actually want to wear.

What The Heck Is A “Mom Edit?”

They believe that ‘mom’ is a verb, not a noun. And that a ‘mom edit’ is one that includes a healthy dose of practicality — whether it’s a shoe that’s comfortable and cute, a beauty product that’s dead easy to use, or an offbeat vacation idea that can be both relaxing and a little adventurous. While they do — sometimes — cover the beautiful clothes and fancy shoes (there’s nothing wrong with a little sartorial swooning), most of their content is focused on celebrating the everyday. They are not here to dictate style ‘rules’. Instead, they’re here to support each other in discovering (and expressing) our real, authentic selves.

The Mom Edit describes Shana as, Our ‘It Girl’ who never thinks of herself as one. Those things aren’t important to her (and she’s from the Midwest, so…polite). But how else would you describe someone whose style comes off as effortless and fresh, is always up for a challenge (heyyy, learning to ski in her 40s), plans Instagram-worthy trips that are both adventurous and family-friendly, uses real data to make decisions (engineering background), AND makes a mean…anything in a crock pot? THAT kind of ‘It Girl’. She’s also the reason we’re all here. Since 2008, she’s been helping moms (and non moms) to express their true, authentic style.
